Preparations for the 2022 30th Anniversary Convention are progressing nicely, and the date is quickly approaching. As previously announced, the Convention and AGM is being held from September 12 – September 15th at the Georgian Bay Hotel and Conference Centre in Collingwood, Ontario.
The finalized schedule of events and activities has been posted to the CNAREA website and is included with this update. We are excited to be holding our AGM both in person and virtually and look forward to providing the membership with important information regarding the affairs of the association and the future direction.
On Wednesday September 14, we are hosting Stakeholders Day, which will include a Guest Speaker, Panel Discussion, Trade Show, and BBQ later in the evening.
Industry Standards are vital to ensure stakeholder and consumer confidence as well as maintaining public trust. The opening line of the Preamble in the 2020-21 USPAP states, “The purpose of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) is to promote and maintain a high level of public trust in appraisal practice by establishing requirements for appraisers.” The need for consistent and reliable appraisal standards has never been more important and with that in mind we are pleased to have Lisa Desmarais, SRA from The Appraisal Foundation as our guest speaker. Lisa “serves as the Foundation’s appraiser in residence and responsible for technical appraisal issues, standards, and qualifications.” Following Lisa’s presentation, we will be having a discussion on what the importance of standards means for CNAREA and the membership.
This year’s trade show will be held in the afternoon of the 14th and will include participants and stakeholders hoping to meet with members. So far, we have confirmation that the following firms will be attending:
• FCT
• FNF Canada
• Nationwide Appraisal Services
• Opta
• RPS
• Solidifi
• Value Connect
Further information on these firms and partners will be available on the convention app and we hope to have one or two more participants confirm shortly.
Stakeholder Day will conclude with a Tiki BBQ held on the main patio at the Georgian Bay Hotel and Conference Centre.
We will be holding two Workshops that will qualify for Continuing Education credits.
The workshop on Tuesday September 13 from 8:30 AM -10:00 AM will look at Anti Money Laundering (AML) and the importance to appraisers.
The second workshop on Thursday September 15th 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM, “What do you think the value is?” – a Case Study, involves an in-depth look at an appraisal assignment from the perspective of a supervisor, (it is a Candidate Member’s appraisal report), a Lender’s perspective, and then from a Reviewer’s perspective.
Continuing Education credits will be given to those that attend the workshops, the guest speaker, and panel discussion totalling 10 hours.
In the coming days we will be launching the Convention App and it will be forwarded to members upon registration for the convention. Members and guests will be able to access important information on events, activities, meals, hotel amenities, nominees running for the Board, participants in the Stakeholders Day, and other convention happenings.
For those planning to arrive via Pearson Airport we are arranging transportation from the airport to Collingwood. There will be two trips from Pearson to Collingwood on Monday September 12 at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, one trip from Collingwood to Pearson on Thursday September 15th at 10:00 AM and two trips from Collingwood to Pearson on Friday September 16th at 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Registration for transportation will be on the CNAREA Convention web page in the next few days.
We would like to remind you that the planning of accommodations, meals, events, and activities are based on the number of members registered for the convention. As such, the earlier you register the better we can plan and ensure that we have the best event possible. Registration for in-person and virtual events is available at cnarea.ca, Member Log in.
