Candidate & Candidate Non-FeeTraining Program

CNAREA’s training program offers two pathways to learning with both providing a structured path to mastering essential valuation concepts and building a strong foundation for a successful career in the profession.

Offered by CNAREA in partnership with McKissock/AI, this comprehensive self-paced program includes modules designed to fit seamlessly into your professional and personal life. Learn at your own pace while balancing work, family, and other commitments. With an intuitive platform for navigating modules, materials, and quizzes, support is readily available for both course questions and technical needs.

Candidate Pathway
Intended for individuals who are completing their required coursework while gaining practical experience under the guidance of an approved Supervisor.

Applicants are responsible for securing a Certified Appraisal Reviewer to act as their supervisor. Supervision (and any employment arrangement) must be in place before submitting a Candidate Member application. Use the Find an Appraiser page to find CNAREA members with the required designation in your area and visit the Employment Opportunities page for current employment listings and opportunities. Candidates are required to complete the USPAP course below and obtain Errors & Omissions insurance prior to beginning their practical training.

Candidate Non-Fee Pathway
Intended for individuals who wish to complete the required courses independently, without working under a Supervisor at this stage. This flexible structure allows learners to choose the path that best fits their current professional circumstances and goals.

*Please note, Module 4 is only available to Candidate Pathway Members

Education FAQs

Yes! Once the USPAP course is complete, a Certified Appraisal Reviewer Supervisor is secured, and Errors & Omissions Insurance is obtained, you can work while completing the Candidate Training Program. Please note: Your Reviewer must sign your report when you are a Candidate member.

Previous real estate industry experience does not reduce the required DAR courses. Appraisal-related courses from other institutions may be considered for credit toward CNAREA’s mandatory or core courses, and other real estate-related courses may be reviewed for possible elective credit. Applicants must still complete any remaining required courses and the two-year supervised work experience requirement before writing the DAR exam. See: Candidate & Candidate Non-Fee Training Program.

Your Supervisor must be a CNAREA member who holds the Certified Appraisal Reviewer designation. To find one, use the Find an Appraiser search tool and also check the Job Board, then contact Certified Appraisal Reviewers in your area to ask whether they are accepting Candidates. Please note: CNAREA does not get involved in the business operations of our members and as such will not get involved in the hiring of new candidates.

All of our courses are offered online in both self-paced learning and Workshop learning formats
