Location: Calgary, Alberta and open to Candidates working remotely with experience appraising in AB and/or Ontario

Work hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm (40 hours/week)

WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?

As a Real Estate Analyst on the Mortgage Underwriting team, you will research property and real estate information to analyze and value real estate. You’ll be working with a team two or more Appraisers within the company to share the work load, learn from each other and peer review analyses. With the account manager and underwriting team, you will conduct due diligence on real estate and mortgage transactions and make property risk recommendations.

Calvert’s Analyst serves the Underwriting team by being a detail-oriented investigator. Think of the Underwriting team as your customer, and your goal is to help set them, and the rest of the team up for success when they communicate with their clients and helping Calvert Home Mortgage customers fund their dreams.

Be meticulous and focused on gathering and reviewing all relevant data related to real estate, real property, property improvement plans, property improvement and income expense analysis. You will organize and summarize this information in a way that will serve Calvert’s goal of unprecedented speed, without ever sacrificing accuracy and protection of company assets. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Your ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines allows for you to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a time sensitive environment. Effective and efficient use of computers and specialized software is central to this role.  While holding a DAR, CRA or AACI candidacy or designation in Property appraisal will be required, training is provided. You will learn from your team and industry professionals how to be the best at serving clients while exceeding industry standards in terms of customer service, and speed of service.

75% – Property Valuations

  • Research, verify and validate real property details
  • Value a variety of residential properties in Alberta and Ontario and review appraisals with a detailed approach
  • Analyze real estate security risk, marketability concerns and economic real estate trends
  • Prepare desktop reports on valuation analysis and risk levels and present to the appropriate team member
  • Evaluate residential/commercial appraisals with a detailed approach, escalating any marketability and other risk concerns
  • Mentor and learn with team members in the valuations team as well as underwriters on valuing a variety of residential properties in Alberta and Ontario as well as reviewing third party appraisals
  • Review and critique property related documents and reports (condominium documentation, environmental reports)
  • Assist other underwriters with questions or concerns regarding the risk analysis of the property security

15% – Research, Analysis and Reporting

  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable valuation/appraisal guidelines, and underwriting guidelines related to property security
  • Verify/validate all required property information relative to a ‘full service’ environment
  • Gather and document necessary reports regarding a property and its improvements, or planed improvements (many reports require hypothetical assumptions on renovation or development work)
  • Property Research and Business Model Research
  • Be an Investigator who is always searching for fine details to serve the Underwriting team
  • Work in a collaborative team performing market analysis and researching transactions, industries and financial information
  • Contribute to presentation materials, reports and schedules for client engagements
  • Research and verify to communicate adequately and with conciseness the information which the customers need
  • Research, summarize and compile economic and real estate statistics data and forecasts

10% – Data Management

  • Manage Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool data to keep Client files updated, and the team aligned
  • Demonstrate ability to develop processes and structures to manage information and workflows;
  • Improve data quality by automating processes, and creating reports and company dashboards
  • Providing support to Residential Underwriters with additional duties as required.
