Designation Definitions

You will need to know which membership designation you are applying for. You will be applying for one of the following:

Candidate Member (CM) – must have a supervisor (a CNAREA Reviewer) lined up already;

Designated Appraiser Residential (DAR) – must have had DAR designation previously, or equivalent designation with another association.

Candidates

You are responsible for researching and contacting members of CNAREA, who hold the Certified Appraisal Reviewer designation, to inquire about being their Candidate. For your convenience, please use our Search Tool to search members in and around your area. A supervisor must be a member of CNAREA and hold the Certified Appraisal Reviewer Designation. You may also check our Job Board for potential job openings.

All Applicants

All applications for membership are submitted here; New Membership Application, which goes to the Membership and Admissions Committee. Each application is reviewed with regard to education and experience. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma, and not have a criminal record (these documents are required to be submitted with your online application). If we have any questions for you, we will contact you directly. We process applications in the order we receive them and do our best to respond as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience during this process.

Once you have been contacted regarding approval of your application, you will be invoiced for the membership fee, see New Member Fee Guide. The invoice will be due within 30 days of it being issued. If not paid by the 30th day, it will be cancelled and you will be required to reapply, if you’re still interested in being a member. The membership fee is renewed annually, no later than May 31st. Once your invoice is paid, login credentials will be created for you to access our website portal where you will be able to order courses and renew membership fees when they become due. You cannot gain access to our courses if you are not a member.

All new members must complete course CNA100 Introduction to Appraisal Standards within 30 days of becoming a member.  Once you successfully complete this online course within the 30 days you will be mailed a Welcome Package which includes your membership certificate. After passing CNA100,  you will be able to proceed with completing the next courses. A full list of courses that are required to be completed within specific time lines can be found here: Education Requirements for DAR.

After passing CNA100, we will reach out to our insurance provider, who will email you with a link to apply for and purchase Errors & Omissions insurance coverage. All CM’s and DAR’s require insurance coverage. If you wish to find an alternative insurance provider, you must provide proof of insurance to us to remain a Member in Good Standing.
